Dear colleagues,
it’s always good to schedule a backup (you know just in case). You have three options to do it:
- Local Authentication Manager Server
- the easiest to deploy
- sometimes “the fastest”
- less dependencies on storage and networking team
- backup is stored by default under /opt/rsa/am/backup
- no need to cross FW
- Windows Shared Folder (preferred one)
- CIFS share needed configured with security descriptor
- FW rules needed
- “slower” than local
- NFS (Network File System) Share Folder
- similar to CIFS but security of the share is based on IP (NFS)
- FW rules needed
- “faster” than CIFS
Recipe (on demand backup):
- connect to the Primary instance’s Operations Console
- go to Maintenance – Backup and Restore – Backup Now
- adjust the Backup Name to your naming policy by default it will reflect date and time also provide the password to encrypt the backup with
Password policy:
Your password must contain:•8 to 32 characters
•At least 1 alphabetic character
•At least 1 special character
•Not allowed: @~
Note: Any leading or trailing space characters will be automatically removed.
Local Manager Server
- select Local Authentication Manager Server radio button and then click on Backup button
- wait until the process finishes and review the result
Windows Shared Folder
- select Windows Shared Folder radio button
- provide share name which this instance has access to (in terms of network); service account credentials should be provided to you by relevant team responsible of the share; finally click on Backup button
- wait until the process finishes and review the result
Recipe (schedule backup):
- connect to the Primary Replica Operations Console
- go to Maintenance – Backup and Restore – Schedule Backups
- select the Scheduled Backup on this deployment is radio button to On
- Backup Configuration: Backup password (see password policy above)
- Maximum Number of Archived Backups (if saving locally RSA recommends only 4), if saving externally – check with your backup policy, you can have up to 14)
- Backup Location (same choices as on demand)
- Schedule: (check with backup policy) you can run in daily; click on Done button
- review the result
Recipe (monitor backups):
- connect to the Primary Replica Operations Console
- go to Maintenance – Backup and Restore – Schedule Backups
- select backup type and provide necessary information (same choices as backup on demand)
- click on Next button
- review the backup list
