[RSA] Authentication Manager 8.1 – promote new replica instance on 8.1.0.0.0-build1364817

Dear colleagues,

here’s the procedure how to promote new replica instance running pure vanilla 8.1.0.0.0

RECIPE:

  • make sure relevant firewall matrix is in place
  • connect to Operations Console of the Primary Instance
  • go to Deployment Configuration – Instances – Generate Replica Package

  • click on Download and browse to the secure location, finish the operation by clicking on Done

  • connect to freshly deploy instance and type in the Quick Setup Access code and click on Next

  • select Start Replica Quick Setup

  • click on Start Step 1

  • select appropriate Region and Location, then according to your liking select either Sync to NTP Server (my favourite) or the other option; once NTP IP addresses are in click on Preview Current Date & Time button, this should give you correct time and the time zone; once done click on Next button

  • reset Operating System (SLES 11) application user (not root) password, it’s the one which is used when doing SSH-based operations; mind the password policy; once done click on Done

  • review the configuration once certain confirm by clicking on Start Configuration button

  • wait until the process finishes

  • once it’s done click on Begin Attach

  • click on Choose File button and browse to the replica package; also check DNS resolution between primary and current replica (both ways), FW: 7002/tcp, 1812/tcp, 1813/tcp should be allowed (both ways) and finally the time has to be synchronized between them; once sure click on Next button

  • provide the admin user credentials of primary instance operations console and click on Next button

  • if all prerequisites are met, you should see the following screen

  • once completed you should be able to access the Operation Console of freshly cooked replica instance

  • you may run into SSL issue with the browser, if that’s the case please follow this article
  • once connected to Operations Console of the replica let’s check the replication status by going to Deployment Configuration – Instances – Status Report

  • if there’s no problem with replication you should see the Normal status like in the screenshot below
